Solos: The Sound of Light

Sun 23rd Aug 4pm
With Fred Watson and the Canberra Mandolin Orchestra
Belconnen Arts Centre

Is there a giant sound wave travelling throughout the universe?  What noise does the Aurora Borealis make?  Join Griffyn Director Michael Sollis, Astronomer Fred Watson, and the plucked harmonies of the Canberra Mandolin Orchestra in The Sound of Light – an aural journey through the lights across the universe, and what noise they may make.

Astronomer Fred Watson, well known from his appearances on ABC Radio and TV, will be our tour guide for this special Science Week event, as we hear creative responses to the ‘Sound of Light’ from Estonian composer Urmas Sisask, composer of Griffyn’s seminal Southern Sky, and world premieres from Griffyn director Michael Sollis.  Hear Comet Hyakutake, constellations across the night sky, and the Aurora Borealis in a not-to-be-missed event!  Also featuring Kiri Sollis who will perform a flute concerto with Mandolin Orchestra Perpetuum Mobile by Urmas Sisask.

Griffyn Solos is series of concerts showcasing a different side of Griffyn members, spread throughout the year!
